Is your washer suddenly thumping, squealing, or grinding? These sounds are your machine’s way of sending an SOS. A loud thumping noise, especially during the spin cycle, usually points to an unbalanced load (see Blog 1) or worn-out tub bearings, which is a more serious repair. A high-pitched squeal often indicates a failing or stretched drive belt that needs replacement. A grinding or rattling sound, particularly during draining, means a foreign object (like a coin or button) has likely made its way into the drain pump or the drum itself.
